What happens to your skin during perimenopause and menopause
The menopause transition is natural. The skin changes that come with it are real, clinically documented — and in many cases, treatable. Understanding what is happening is the first step.
Thinning & Fragility
Estrogen supports the production of collagen and elastin — the proteins that give skin its thickness and resilience. As estrogen declines, skin can lose up to 30% of its collagen in the first five years of menopause, becoming thinner, more fragile, and prone to bruising.
Dryness & Dehydration
Estrogen plays a critical role in maintaining the skin's moisture barrier and hyaluronic acid content. During perimenopause, many women notice their skin becoming persistently dry, tight, and dull — even if it was oily before. Over-the-counter moisturizers often provide only temporary relief.
Loss of Elasticity & Firmness
Declining estrogen directly reduces skin elasticity. The result is skin that feels less firm and bounces back more slowly. This accelerates the appearance of fine lines and sagging — particularly around the jawline, eyes, and neck — at a rate that is faster than normal chronological ageing.
Accelerated Fine Lines & Wrinkles
The same loss of collagen, elastin, and hydration that causes thinning and dryness also accelerates the formation of fine lines. Perimenopausal skin ages at a measurably faster rate than premenopausal skin — a process that begins years before the final menstrual period.
Uneven Texture & Tone
Reduced cellular turnover during the menopause transition means dead skin cells accumulate more slowly and unevenly on the surface, contributing to dull, rough, or blotchy skin texture. Pigmentation changes — including age spots and melasma — may also become more pronounced.
Slow Wound Healing
Estrogen is a key regulator of the skin's healing response. As levels fall, the skin's ability to repair itself slows. Minor irritations, redness, and sensitivities that would have cleared quickly before perimenopause may take noticeably longer to resolve.
Important: These skin changes are distinct from typical ageing. They are caused by hormonal loss, and many can be meaningfully addressed with targeted prescription treatment. This page is for educational purposes only. Only a licensed healthcare practitioner can determine whether prescription treatment is appropriate for you.

How RevelleCare works
No referral. No waiting room. Your NP assessment, consultation, and prescription — from home.
Complete your skin health intake
Create your RevelleCare account and complete a detailed online intake form covering your medical history, current skin concerns, symptoms, medications, and contraindications. This takes approximately 10–15 minutes and can be done entirely at your own pace.
Meet with your Nurse Practitioner
A licensed Canadian NP — registered in your province — will review your intake form and conduct a live virtual consultation with you (video or phone). This is a genuine, individualized clinical assessment. Your NP will ask questions, review your history, and discuss what treatment options may be appropriate for you.
Receive your personalized prescription
If your NP determines that prescription treatment is clinically appropriate, she will issue a patient-specific prescription. This is transmitted directly to our licensed compounding pharmacy partner, who prepares your formulation to order — not in advance, not in batches. Just for you.
Your order is shipped to your door
Your compounded prescription is packaged in RevelleCare's signature frosted glass with discreet, elegant delivery to your home anywhere in Ontario or BC. A 3-month supply arrives with everything you need to begin your routine.
Annual renewal with your NP
Your prescription is valid for one year. Before renewal, you will complete a new intake and undergo a new NP assessment. There is no automatic refill. Every renewal is a fresh clinical review — because your skin and your health may change over time, and your treatment plan should too.

No blood tests required to get started
Unlike some hormone programs, RevelleCare does not require you to get blood work before your consultation. Clinical guidelines for menopausal skin care support a symptom-based approach: if you are of an appropriate age and experiencing the characteristic skin changes of perimenopause or menopause, your NP can assess and prescribe based on your symptoms and medical history.
Hormone levels fluctuate significantly during the menopause transition, which means a single blood test can be misleading. Your symptoms — and your NP's clinical judgment — are the most reliable guide.
Your NP may recommend follow-up testing in specific clinical circumstances. She will discuss this with you during your consultation.
"The menopause transition is natural, but it's far from trivial. Suffering through it shouldn't be."

Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about RevelleCare's prescription skincare program.
Who is RevelleCare for?
RevelleCare is designed for women in perimenopause or menopause who are experiencing skin changes — including dryness, thinning, loss of firmness, fine lines, or uneven texture — that they believe may be related to declining estrogen. You must be 18 or older and located in Ontario or British Columbia to access our services at launch.
Do I need a referral from my family doctor?
No referral is needed. RevelleCare Nurse Practitioners are independently licensed to assess and prescribe. You can access your consultation directly through our platform without seeing your GP first — though we always recommend keeping your primary care provider informed of any treatments you are receiving.
What is a Nurse Practitioner, and can they really prescribe?
Nurse Practitioners (NPs) are registered nurses with advanced graduate-level education who hold independent prescribing authority in Canada. They are licensed to assess, diagnose, and prescribe medications — including compounded topical formulations — without physician oversight. All RevelleCare NPs are registered with their provincial college (CNO in Ontario, BCCNM in BC) and have experience in women's health and hormonal care.
What is compounded skincare and how is it different from a regular product?
Compounded skincare is prepared by a licensed compounding pharmacy specifically for an individual patient, against a valid prescription from their healthcare provider. Unlike mass-manufactured products, every RevelleCare prescription is made to order — your formulation, your name, your dosage. This allows your NP to prescribe active pharmaceutical ingredients (such as estradiol and estriol) that are not available in any over-the-counter or commercially manufactured topical product in Canada.
Is prescription topical estrogen safe for skin use?
Topical estrogen applied to the skin delivers much lower systemic absorption than oral or transdermal hormone therapy. Clinical research on topical estrogen applied to facial skin shows it is well-tolerated, with a strong safety profile when used as directed. Your NP will review your full medical history — including any personal or family history of hormone-sensitive conditions — before determining whether a prescription is appropriate for you. As with any prescription, there are individual risks, which your NP will discuss with you during your consultation.
What if I am not a candidate for hormonal treatment?
Not everyone is a candidate for prescription hormonal skincare, and that is okay. RevelleCare's Non-Hormonal Repair Cream is available without a prescription and provides a high-performance alternative using clinically active ingredients including Vitamin B3 (niacinamide), Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and peptides. Your NP will guide you toward the most appropriate option during your consultation.
Will I need a video or phone call with my NP?
Yes. Every RevelleCare consultation includes a live virtual appointment with your NP — by video or phone. This is a genuine clinical assessment, not an automated questionnaire review. Your NP will speak with you directly, ask follow-up questions, and discuss your treatment options before any prescription is issued. We believe the NP-patient relationship is at the heart of safe, personalized care.
How quickly will I hear from my NP after submitting my intake?
After submitting your intake form, you will be contacted to schedule your virtual NP consultation. We aim to offer consultations within 5–7 business days of submission at launch. Once your prescription is issued, your compounded formulation will be prepared and shipped within 3–5 business days.
How much does RevelleCare cost?
There is a one-time $50 CAD intake consultation fee, charged at the time of your initial NP appointment. Your prescription formulation is billed as a 3-month supply: $195 CAD for our hormonal Rx creams, or $115 CAD for the Non-Hormonal Repair Cream. Annual renewals include a $50 CAD NP renewal fee. There are no hidden subscription charges — you are billed per supply when you choose to renew.
Is RevelleCare covered by insurance or provincial health plans?
Compounded prescription products are not covered by provincial health plans (OHIP, MSP). Coverage through private extended health benefits varies by plan. We recommend contacting your benefits provider with the drug name and DIN (Drug Identification Number) to confirm your coverage. RevelleCare will provide you with all relevant documentation to support an insurance claim.
Where is RevelleCare available?
RevelleCare will launch in Ontario and British Columbia in Fall 2026. We plan to expand across Canada in 2027. Join our waitlist to be notified when we launch in your province.
How does my prescription get renewed?
Approximately 90 days before your prescription expires, you will receive a reminder to complete a new intake form. A new NP assessment is required before any renewal prescription is issued. There is no automatic refill. Your renewal NP may be the same practitioner or a different member of our clinical team — we will always ensure consistency in your care record.
Is RevelleCare a replacement for my regular doctor or dermatologist?
No. RevelleCare provides a faster, more accessible way to receive a clinical assessment and prescription for menopausal skin concerns — but our service does not replace your primary care provider or specialist. We strongly encourage you to keep your GP or dermatologist informed of any treatments you are receiving through RevelleCare. For emergencies, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room. RevelleCare is not intended for urgent or emergency medical situations.
Is my health information kept private?
Yes. All personal health information collected by RevelleCare is handled in accordance with PIPEDA (the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act) and applicable provincial privacy legislation, including PHIPA in Ontario and PIPA in BC. Your health information is never sold or shared with third parties for marketing purposes. Our platform uses encrypted, secure communication for all clinical records and consultations.
